Feb 15th, Izumi’s

Since we were receiving guests on the 14th, we went out for a more intimate dinner at Izumi’s. Izumi’s, although in a new location (next door to its old building) is one of the oldest Japanese restaurants in Milwaukee and still excellent. The original owner, Izumi Kabata, does not run it any longer (he has a new restaurant that we have yet to try,) new chefs and owners Fujiko Matsu and Tatsuya Goro have maintained and in some ways exceeded old standards. Since it had been a long time since we’d been to Izumi’s, we decided to catch up on what they were doing now by ordering the Special Dinner for Two, which, at $45.00, was a really good deal. For this, we got a nice appetizer of assorted sashimi, very elegantly presented; a large piece of the house specialty grilled cod (delicious, but hard to eat with chopsticks--); tempura; sushi; teriyaki (we chose the chicken); rice; tea, and dessert. Everything was delicious, of the highest quality, and elegantly presented. We had very good and attentive service, and the ambiance was very nice. Even though the dining room was busy it did not seem noisy, and we were able
to converse without raising our voices. We really had a lovely time.
