And this year's award--

--for audacity and imagination in criminal enterprise, goes to the
so-far anonymous individual who has sought to blackmail members of the
Wisconsin State Legislature by attempting to insert child pornography
onto their computer systems. This person claims to be a member of a
cabal of Internet extortionists who have supposedly been making money by
tracking down child porn users or suppliers and then blackmailing them.
The author of e-mails received at the State Capitol then demands that
the legislators support his particular agenda, which is to a) de-fund
the State's Child Porn Task Force (allegedly because he and his gang "do
a better job") and b) significantly increase statutory penalties for
possession of child pornography.

Is this entrepreneurial, or what? Not only is he demanding that the
state cease any competition with him, he also wants penalties upped so
as to increase the incentive for paying his blackmail.

Time will tell whether or not the perpetrator, who uses the e-mail ID
'pthc_luvr', among others, will prove to be as untraceable as he
brags--.
